Turning Stone Earns Golf Digest's Editors' Choice Award for Best Travel in 2017
Just as the 2017 golf season is launching, Turning Stone Resort Casino’s championship courses are once again being recognized by one of the sport’s leading national publications.
Turning Stone Resort Casino is kicking off the 2017 golf season with yet another accolade to add to its already impressive list of prestigious recognitions in the sport. The world-class courses at the Upstate New York destination resort were just honored with Golf Digest’s Editors’ Choice Award for Best Travel in 2017.
Launched last year, Golf Digest’s Editors’ Choice Award for Best Travel identifies “The Best Things in Golf” with an emphasis on lifestyle properties, products and services. Turning Stone, and the other 2017 winners, will be highlighted in the May issue of Golf Digest.
The newest accolade fittingly comes just as the 2017 golf season is launching at Turning Stone. With both Sandstone Hollow and Pleasant Knolls opening earlier this week, Shenendoah is set to open tomorrow, April 14, followed by Kaluhyat on Friday, April 21 and Atunyote on Thursday, April 27.
This spring, Turning Stone will also celebrate the grand re-opening of its popular Shenendoah course, which was recently redesigned by original architect, the renowned Rick Smith. After nearly a year-long redesign the resort’s original 18-hole course has seven completely new holes. The course was built and is maintained to comply with stringent Audubon International standards for environmental protection and preservation. Smith who used the natural landscape to create wooded parkland holes, says of the redesign, “While Shenendoah has always been a great golf experience, after the redesign, it’s even better.” Designed, constructed and maintained to PGA Tour standards at more than 7,000 yards, the course offers five tee boxes on every hole creating the perfect experience for any level player.
The golf courses at Turning Stone have been repeatedly ranked among the nation’s finest courses by Golf Digest and other top publications. Turning Stone’s Atunyote and Kaluhyat were hailed by Golf Digest on its coveted 2015-2016 list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, distinguishing it as the only resort in the Northeast with two or more courses on this esteemed list, and was also named in the top 10 courses in the entire state of New York by Golfweek. These two first-rate courses, along with the gorgeous Shenendoah, are also consistently included on Golfweek’s elite list of the country’s Best Casino Courses.
In addition to award-winning, championship golf, Turning Stone’s 3,400-acre resort features four hotels, more than 20 restaurants and dining options, two luxurious spas, an all-new 125,000-square foot gaming floor, a variety of concert and event venues and several nightlife options with live weekend entertainment. The award-winning resort hosts more than 4.5 million visitors a year. It is the only resort in New York State to hold two honorable distinctions - three Forbes Four Star rated properties and three AAA Four Diamond venues, all at one property.
